Lawrence Woman Charged After Forensic Review Disputes “Hit While Parked” Claim

Complaints were issued against a Lawrence woman on charges of motor vehicle insurance fraud and attempt to commit a crime.  The Lawrence woman is alleged to have reported to The Farmers Insurance Company that on May 8, 2022, that her 2014 Jeep Cherokee was hit while parked causing damage to the passenger side fender and side mirror.  She stated that she parked the Jeep at a medical facility at about 3:00 PM and she later returned to the Jeep between 5:00 and 6:00 PM and found the damage.  A forensic examination revealed that the damage was not consistent with a hit while parked loss.  There was no paint transfer from another vehicle.  The damage was consistent with the Jeep striking a fixed object that contained small protruding objects such as eye bolts or similar objects that impacted the right fender behind the right headlamp assembly.  The Lawrence woman was adamant that the damage happened outside the business where she reported discovering the damage.  She denied hitting a post or pole.
