Lawrence Woman Placed on Pretrial Probation After “Hit While Parked” Claim Disputed by Forensic Findings
A Lawrence woman was placed on pre-trial probation for one year on charges of motor vehicle insurance fraud and attempt to commit a crime. She was ordered to pay $525 in restitution. The Lawrence woman reported to Hanover Insurance Company that her 2020 Honda Accord was hit while parked on May 18, 2022, causing damage to the rear, right rear, and the right front of the vehicle. A forensic examination revealed that the damage was not caused by contact with another vehicle; the Honda struck three stationary objects, consisting of brick, cement, and wood, while in motion damaging three different areas. According to the forensic report, brick and cement were found in the bumper, and the damage did not match the reported hit while parked event alleged. The Lawrence woman claimed she was not involved in an accident, and that there was no pre-existing damage to the Honda. She also stated that she was in possession of the keys and that the vehicle was found in the same spot where she parked it.
