Crash Analysis Challenges Charlestown Man’s Hit-and-Run Claim
A Charlestown man admitted to sufficient facts and the case was continued without a finding for six months on a charge of motor vehicle insurance fraud. The Charlestown man reported to Mapfre Insurance Company that on March 24, 2021, his 2010 Toyota Camry LE Toyota was parked when it was involved in a hit-and-run, causing damage to the front end.
Investigation revealed that the damage profile suggests that the Toyota most likely rear-ended another vehicle, partially under-riding the vehicle in front. Data from the EDR showed the Toyota was traveling at approximately 25 MPH five seconds before the crash. The cumulative delta-V of the crash was recorded at 93 MPH, indicating the Toyota was still moving forward after the impact. The Charlestown man stated that he did not know who struck the vehicle and he did not report the hit and run.
