Canton Woman Faces Charges Over False Property Damage Report

Complaints were issued against a Canton woman on charges of filing a fraudulent insurance claim and attempt to commit a crime.  The Canton woman is alleged to have reported that on February 5, 2023, she incurred water loss at her residence in which a water pipe ruptured in her downstairs bathroom causing damage to the bathroom and basement.  The Canton woman received various checks from Progressive Insurance Company for this property claim totaling over $.80,000.  An invoice that the Canton woman submitted for this claim was from a restoration company for water mitigation services in the amount of $12,220. Investigation revealed that this invoice was fraudulent and company personnel at the restoration company stated that the Canton woman never received the services detailed on the invoice.

The Canton woman reported that due to the damage, the valve was turned off, and since there was no heat in her residence; she would need alternative housing.  Another invoice submitted by the Canton woman was issued by the an expensive hotel for $3,209. Further investigation revealed that the expensive hotel had no record of the Canton woman staying at their hotel.  The Canton woman submitted a contents list from a water restoration company for water damage restoration in the amount of $230.  The Canton woman stated that she paid for this service in cash and did not obtain a receipt.  She reported that an employee at the water restoration company named Jane accepted the cash payment from her.  Additional investigation revealed that the water restoration company never rendered their services to the Canton woman; they do not accept cash as a form of payment; and they do not have an employee named Jane.

The Canton woman maintained that she used the restoration company, the water restoration company, and stayed at the expensive hotel.
