Peabody Man Charged After “Parked Hit” Claim Contradicted by Damage Analysis
Complaints were issued against a Peabody man on charges of motor vehicle insurance fraud and attempt to commit a crime. The Peabody man is alleged to have reported to Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation that on November 15, 2024 his 2011 GMC Terrain was hit while parked causing damage to the entire driver side. He stated that he parked the Terrain in a garage and when he returned to the vehicle, he discovered it damaged. A damage analysis revealed that the damage to the Terrain was not consistent with a hit while parked event and the damage was caused while the vehicle was in motion after it struck a rigid fixed object. The damage analysis concluded that the abrasive deep gouges to the door panel cut into the sheet metal from stones embedded from the rigid fixed object. The Peabody man stated that he is the only driver of the vehicle and had possession of the keys. He stated that he had nothing to do with causing the damages to the Terrain.
