Rockland Man Charged with Insurance Fraud Over False Crash Claim

A complaint was issued against a Rockland man on a charge of motor vehicle insurance fraud.  The Rockland man is alleged to have reported to GEICO Insurance Company on January 30, 2023 that his 2010 Mercedes Benz M-Class was struck by an unknown vehicle causing damage to the driver side front and the wheel.  A vehicle damage analysis revealed the damage was inconsistent with the Mercedes striking another vehicle, and consistent with the Mercedes striking a small, protruding object.

The visible damage was also consistent with numerous impacts along the driver side of the front and driver side front wheel area with an abrasive object which was consistent with intentionally inflicted damages. Damage was consistent with impacts from a handheld device or other object striking the driver side front components.  The Rockland man maintained that the Mercedes was struck by another vehicle that fled the scene.
