Insurance Policy Reinstated After Collision Leads to Fraud Charge
A complaint was issued against a Springfield woman on a charge of filing a fraudulent insurance claim. The Springfield woman is alleged to have reported to Progressive Insurance Company that on March 16, 2024 at 1:30 PM, her 2010 Ford Crown Victoria rear-ended another vehicle and caused damage to the front of the Ford. The Springfield woman’s automobile insurance policy was cancelled for non-payment on March 15, 2024. Dempsey then reinstated the policy via the Progressive Insurance Company application with effective dates of March 16, 2024 (at 12:18 PM) through September 16, 2024).
Investigation revealed that the photos that the Springfield woman provided were time-stamped with metadata indicating that they were taken on March 16, 2024 at 10:40 AM. A police report also indicated that the accident occurred on March 16, 2024 at approximately 10:40 AM. The Springfield woman’s automobile insurance policy was not active at the time of the accident and the policy was reinstated after the collision occurred. She maintained that she secured the policy electronically, prior to the collision.
